Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How do I start playing Tic Tac Toe?

It's simple! From the homepage, you have three options:

  • Create New Game: Click this to start a new game. You can choose between 'Human vs Human' (you'll get a room code to share) or 'Human vs AI'. You'll need to enter your name.
  • Join Game: If a friend shared a room code with you, click this button, enter your name and the room code to join their game.
  • Play vs AI: Click this for a quick match against the computer opponent. Just enter your name and the game starts immediately.
You can also find detailed steps in our How to Play section on the homepage.

2. Is WebTicTacToe.com completely free to play?

Yes, absolutely! WebTicTacToe.com is 100% free to play. There are no hidden costs, subscriptions, or required payments to enjoy the game.

3. Do I need to create an account or download anything?

No! One of the best things about WebTicTacToe.com is that you can play instantly. There's no need to register for an account, provide extensive personal details (other than a temporary name for gameplay), or download any software or apps. Just open the website in your browser and start playing.

4. How does the 'Human vs Human' multiplayer work?

When you choose 'Create New Game' and select 'Human vs Human', the site generates a unique Room ID. You need to share this Room ID with the friend you want to play against. Your friend then selects 'Join Game' on the homepage, enters their name and the Room ID you provided.

Important Note: Currently, the multiplayer feature is a *simulation* handled locally in your browser. While you can share a room code and both players can see the board, the game state isn't actively synchronized between browsers over a server in real-time for each move. It's best suited for players who can communicate moves or are playing side-by-side using the interface. True real-time online multiplayer requires a more complex backend infrastructure which is not implemented at this time.

5. Can I play against a computer opponent?

Yes! You can select "Play vs AI" from the homepage or choose "Human vs AI" when creating a new game. This will pit you against our built-in Artificial Intelligence opponent for a challenging single-player experience.

6. How does the Leaderboard work? Are the stats real?

The Leaderboard shown on the website, along with stats like "Active Players" and "Games Played", are currently included for demonstration and illustrative purposes. They use simulated data and do not reflect real-time, accurate user rankings or site activity based on actual gameplay.

7. The game isn't loading or working correctly. What should I do?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Refresh the page: A simple refresh (Ctrl+R or Cmd+R) often resolves temporary glitches.
  • Check your internet connection: Ensure you have a stable internet connection.
  • Clear browser cache/cookies: Sometimes old data can interfere. Try clearing your browser's cache for our site. (See our Cookie Policy for links on how to do this).
  • Try a different browser: See if the issue persists in another web browser (like Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari).
  • Disable browser extensions: Some extensions (especially ad blockers or script blockers) might interfere with the game's functionality.
If you continue to experience problems, please let us know via the Contact Section, providing details about the issue and the browser/device you are using.
